Lake of the Woods species and what you might want to bring along to catch them:
Walleye – recommended tackle includes: 8-12 pound test. 1/8 to 1/2 ounce jigs, depending on the wind. Lindy rigs or Little Joe spinners. Natural bait includes minnows, leeches, and nightcrawlers. Best colors for jigs and spinners include gold, silver, white, and fluorescent.
Northern Pike – recommended tackle includes: 10 – 20-pound test, with a steel leader. Recommended lures are spoons, bucktails, spinnerbaits, soft plastics, crankbaits, and jerk baits. Best colors are gold, silver, black, white, red, fluorescent, perch, and fire tiger.
Smallmouth Bass – recommended tackle includes: 6 – 10-pound test. Recommended lures are small diving crankbaits, soft plastics, small spinner baits, and in-line spinnerbaits. Best colors are crawfish, orange, brown, red, gold, silver, black, white, fluorescent, and fire tiger.
Muskie – Musky recommended tackle includes: 20 – 40-pound test, with a high quality, heavy gauge, steel leader. Recommended lures are spoons, bucktails, spinnerbaits, soft plastics, crankbaits, and jerk baits. Best colors are gold, silver, black, white, red, fluorescent, perch, and fire tiger.
